For many, Fourth of July festivities began this past weekend, and Megyn’s church at the Jersey Shore was no exception. Following the closing hymn at mass on Sunday, the cantor broke into a rendition of “America the Beautiful” that quickly had the entire standing-room-only congregation singing along.
On Monday’s show, Megyn reflected on the patriotic moment that gave her “chills.”
America the Beautiful
As Megyn shared, she and her family attended church “at the beach” on Sunday. “It was standing room only… almost like Easter or Christmas,” she noted. While the closing hymn was performed as usual to end the mass, it quickly evolved into a very special moment. “There’s always the final hymn and everybody stands up and sings it together, and we did that,” she explained. “Without missing a beat, we went right into… ‘America the Beautiful.’”
The music at Megyn’s church is performed by a singer who also, in her words, “plays an amazing acoustic guitar.” Once he began singing the patriotic tune, it didn’t take long for everyone to join in. “Everybody’s started singing together,” she said. “It was such a beautiful moment.”
Pride and Patriotism
While there will be plenty of conversations this week on both the left and right about what it means to celebrate America and independence in such divided times, Megyn said the moment of unity on display in her community was just what the doctor ordered. “It gave me the chills,” she concluded. “It just filled my heart with pride, with patriotism… to hear that many people singing about our country and how beautiful it is.”
