It’s happening. For the last several months, Megyn has been encouraging Gov. Ron DeSantis to expand his media strategy beyond the friendlier confines of traditional conservative media in an effort to get his message out to more voters and to show potential supporters who he is.
On Monday’s program, Megyn shared that DeSantis has agreed to come on The Megyn Kelly Show and will be taping an interview with her next week.
DeSantis Campaign ‘Shake Up’
Over the weekend, Megyn was at the Turning Point Action conference in West Palm Beach, FL. While the event was attended by a largely ‘pro-Trump’ crowd, Megyn believes it was a “mistake” for the Florida governor to skip it. “No, it’s not his crowd,” she said. “But he would’ve gotten points if he showed up and said, ‘Hey, I’m Ron DeSantis. I know you’re more with Trump, but thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk to you and try to win you over. I’m grateful to Donald Trump for helping me get elected the first time. I do think we have differing visions. That’s why I’m running.’”
Megyn was a featured guest at the conference along with the likes of former President Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson, who was fresh off of moderating the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa. While DeSantis wasn’t at the Turning Point USA event, he was one of the GOP hopefuls interviewed by Carlson in Iowa. Megyn said it was “substantively” one of his best performances to date. “He did go to the Iowa summit… and I think it was the best interview that I’ve seen him do,” she said.
It came amidst some reported changes to his campaign. “They are underperforming expectations, at least so far,” Megyn noted. “He’s got a bunch of money in his Super PAC, but less in his actual campaign.” As a result, some staffers are apparently being let go. “The bottom line is he needs a shake up and one is underway,” she said.
DeSantis Accepts Megyn’s Invitation
During a recent appearance on Fox News, DeSantis said he is going to put himself out there in a more robust way over the next six months or so. That will include an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show. “I’ve been very transparent with all of you that I’ve been asking him to sit with us for months and have been getting the back of the hand,” Megyn explained. “Recently, we reached out again, and this time he accepted.”
As Megyn shared, she will be headed back down to Florida next week to “meet” and “interview” Gov. DeSantis for the first time. “He knows it’s not going to be an easy interview, but it’s not going to be a jugular removal either,” she concluded. “As always, it’s going to be fair, balanced, and based in fact.”
