Last month, Megyn broke the news that she is making her acting debut. She is voicing a role in the new adult animated scripted series from The Daily Wire and Adam Carolla titled Mr Birchum.
It’s based on the junior high school woodshop teacher Carolla popularized on radio and TV over the years and co-stars Roseanne Barr, Kyle Dunnigan, Candace Owens, and more. The show is set to premier on DailyWire+ next year, but the first trailer dropped this week.
On Wednesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Stu Burguiere, host of BlazeTV’s Stu Does America, and Daily Mail columnist Dave Marcus to discuss the show and why the entertainment industry needs more right-of-center voices.
The Mr. Birchum Trailer
Mr. Birchum marks The Daily Wire’s first-ever adult animated scripted series. According to the press release, the show follows Mr. Birchum as he “attempts to navigate a world he doesn’t understand or approve of. He’s befuddled by his gaming streamer son, Eddie, annoyed at his selfie-taking, snowflake students and is constantly at war with the school district’s appointed ‘J.E.D.I.’ (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion officer).”
The show’s voice cast features Carolla as Mr. Birchum and Megyn as his wife Wendi. “She is definitely a lefty, unlike yours truly,” Megyn explained. “One of her best friends is Candace Owens’ character, so she and I have some scenes together.” In the trailer, you get a flavor for who Wendi is:
Megyn admitted that she agreed to participate as a favor to Carolla, but it turned out to be a really “fun” experience. So far, all she has seen is small bits and pieces of the completed project, and Marcus said it in no way compares to seeing the finished product . “Back in my old days as an actor, I did a little voiceover work and it’s so crazy… when you see it done,” he shared. “It’s a very weird experience – like, there is your voice in this character.”
Alternative Entertainment
It’s no secret that the majority of those creating content in Hollywood are left of center, but media companies like The Daily Wire and TheBlaze, where Burguiere works, have been attempting to change that with their programming.
Megyn believes Mr. Birchum offers an alternative. “There is so much goodness for our side, the side of normalcy that doesn’t get offended at everything,” she shared. “It’s just refreshing to be a part of something like that.”
In Burguiere’s view, there is a wide open lane for this kind of content. “There is such fertile ground for it… [because] the people on the left who would normally do this – they would be the people making fun of all the craziness in our society – have abandoned this ground,” he noted. “And it’s important for conservatives to actually be active in this [space].”
In the case of Mr. Birchum, Burguiere believes the starpower will help. “The best part about it is not that we’re being active in this world, it’s that we’re getting people who don’t suck to do it,” he said. “Adam Carolla is legitimately funny… You can tell you have an all-star cast there.”
While Marcus agreed, he said there is an important element the right is missing. “One piece of the puzzle that we don’t have yet… is the development of talent – young actors, screenwriters, these talented people,” he explained. “The left completely owns all of the places that they… learn their craft.”
In order to truly compete with the traditional Hollywood studios, Marcus said more groundwork has to be laid. “It’s good to have these top-line projects,” he concluded. “But conservatives have to do a better job developing this talent.”
