In the wake of former President Donald Trump’s historic 30-point win in the Iowa Caucus, President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign attempted to enter the conversation with a social media push.
The Biden team posted a brief video that was meant to serve as a reminder that Biden is “the only person” to beat Trump, but that’s not exactly what has people talking.
On Wednesday’s show, Megyn was joined by The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles to discuss the awkward video and the contrast it shows between Trump’s strength and Biden’s fragility.
Campaign Clip
On Tuesday evening, Biden’s personal X account posted a 12-second clip of the president reacting to the Iowa Caucus results. “Iowa’s over, and there’s still only one person who’s ever defeated Donald Trump,” the caption read.
In the video, Biden is seated at the head of a long table as he delivers a short address. “You know, it’s kind of funny,” he began. “All of these Republican candidates in the primary are trying to beat Donald Trump, and I’m still the only person to ever beat Donald Trump. And I am looking forward to doing it again for the good of this country.”
First and foremost, Megyn said the president’s team didn’t do him any favors with the set. “Why is he sitting at the kiddie table,” she said. “He looks like he’s down here… with his little hands [folded]…He’s like a little kid at the big table.”
Knowles noted this isn’t the first time a Biden production has been lacking. “I need to know which photographers and cinematographers the Biden White House hires,” he said. “You remember there was that picture with Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter where Joe Biden looked like the Incredible Hulk, like he was going to put Jimmy Carter in his pocket and then now it looks like he’s an ant or something.”
‘This Is Terrifying’
But it wasn’t just the cinematography that was off. While brevity may be the soul of wit, Megyn and Knowles were not convinced the post was meant to be as short as it was. “Is there any way the original script was only 12 seconds,” Megyn asked. “Zero chance.”
They also weren’t convinced – given the obvious edit six seconds in – that the commander in chief was able to deliver a clean take. “That jump cut… was obviously there for a reason,” Megyn said. “He screwed it up. He couldn’t get through it.” Knowles agreed. “He’s not a one-take wonder, that’s for sure,” he added. “And the sad thing is, we know that that was the best take.”
And then there was Biden’s delivery. “I’m not Steven Spielberg… [but] it just seems to me that some good direction for the president in that video would have been to open his eyes,” Knowles quipped. “I think that statements are more persuasive when your eyes are open and you’re not mumbling in your sleep while you give them.”
Ultimately, Megyn wondered if it is a sign of what’s to come from the Biden campaign. “Is that a preview of what we’re going to be getting over the next 10, 11 months – spliced videos controlled by his team where he could spit something out in 10 takes,” she asked. “This is terrifying.”
