Joe Biden’s no good, very bad media coverage in the wake of his disastrous debate performance last month slowed down after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump on Saturday. But it appears as though the reporting is picking up once again.
Leaks suggest that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer visited Biden in Delaware over the weekend to ask him to step aside as the nominee, while Democrats who were on an internal call with the 81 year old called the president’s condition “worse than the debate.”
On Wednesday’s show, Megyn was joined by the hosts of Ruthless – John Ashbrook, Michael Duncan, Josh Holmes, and Comfortably Smug – to discuss the news of Biden’s meltdown and what it means for his political future.
Biden’s Meltdown
While the shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and the start of the Republican National Convention has dominated the news cycle this week, Megyn said “some important news got lost” in the shuffle – “namely President Biden was having a meltdown on internal calls with fellow Democrats.”
According to a Puck News report published Tuesday, Biden had a “tense” video call with dozens of “moderate” Democrats that was described as “even worse than the debate.” The virtual meeting ended about an hour before the assassination attempt on Trump, at 5pm ET, because Biden had to leave for church.
Multiple sources told the outlet that the incumbent struggled to keep his thoughts straight throughout. “The call was even worse than the debate,” a person in attendance said. “He was rambling; he’d start an answer then lose his train of thought, then would just say ‘whatever.’ He really couldn’t complete an answer. I lost a ton of respect for him.”
Others said the president was “dismissive of concerns” about his reelection chances but “unable or unprepared to present a campaign strategy.” A member of Congress told Puck News that, had it not been for the attack on Trump, “50 people on that Zoom were ready to come out publicly against” Biden.
Bronze Star Blowup
One of the more contentious moments of the call came when Biden chastised Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO). The retired Army Ranger, who was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions in combat in Iraq, asked the president about national security concerns among voters. “First of all, I think you’re dead wrong on national security,” Biden told him, according to a recording of the call.
“You saw what happened recently in terms of the meeting we had with NATO. I put NATO together. Name me a foreign leader who thinks I’m not the most effective leader in the world on foreign policy. Tell me!” Biden said. He then added: “Tell me who did something that you’ve never done with your Bronze Star like my son.”
While only a transcript exists of the call at the moment, Comfortably Smug surmised the video must be “a disaster” for Biden. “I want to actually see the video where everything that President Trump has been accused of – that he is ‘a megalomaniac’ – this guy says,” he said. “‘Everyone in the world knows I’m the best. I’m the best. What have you done with your Bronze Star?'”
Duncan said the attack is akin to the ‘suckers and losers’ line that gets attributed to Trump – except the transcript actually exists in this case.
Ultimately, Megyn had but one thought after hearing the report. “That is the man who has the nuclear codes,” she concluded. “It’s terrifying.”
