‘She Is Such a Phony’: Megyn Reacts to Kamala Harris Using Different Accents with Different Audiences

Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign has still not put forth any kind of policy platform that would give the American people a sense of how she plans to govern. That comes amid criticism that the vice president has been backtracking on past positions (i.e. immigration, fracking, etc.) and/or adopting ones that piggyback off of her opponent (see: no taxes on tips) rather than taking a stand.

But that is not the only shapeshifting Harris is being accused of. The vice president is crisscrossing battleground states to deliver her go-to stump speech, and it appears as though she changes the way she talks depending on her audience.

On Wednesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Glenn Greenwald, host of Rumble’s System Update, to discuss the latest example of Harris’ perceived pandering and what it says about her campaign.

Detroit vs. Pittsburgh

The vice president attended two campaign events on Monday. First, she was in Detroit, MI, followed by a quick trip south to Pittsburgh, PA. In both cities, she spoke about the work unions have done on behalf of American workers – except her delivery was noticeably different the second time around:

Fox News’ Peter Doocy tried to raise the issue with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre who dismissed the observation as something voters don’t care about, while former ESPN anchor Jemele Hill accused Doocy of racism.

She posted a clip of Doocy and Jean-Pierre’s exchange on X and said the “entire conversation around VP Harris’ dialect is rooted in how little *some* white folks know about Black people.”

‘Sinister’ Motives?

This is not the first time, however, Harris has been called out for her speaking style on the campaign trail, and Greenwald believes the critique is warranted. “The sort of thing we talk about with our politicians is whether there is authenticity,” he explained. “Kamala Harris says she is from Oakland. She never lived in Oakland. She was raised by her Indian mother… She has never sounded like that in public until about three months before an election when they absolutely have to solidify the black vote.”

Megyn agreed. “She is such a phony,” she said. “She is the daughter of two PhDs who was raised mostly by her PhD Indian mother in Canada, and yet… she wants the mostly black audience to believe that is how she talks… What kind of an insult is that to the mostly black audience?”

Greenwald called Harris’ delivery “artificial” and disrespectful. “I would suggest that adopting certain kinds of lingo or forms of speaking that are not your own simply to appeal to a certain group is painfully cringeful and condescending,” he noted. “It’s what Hillary Clinton used to do when she would pretend to have a southern accent as well.”

But in Greenwald’s view, the lack of authenticity is nothing new for Harris. “It just reflects so much on the fact that Kamala Harris… is nothing more than an opportunist – totally craven – with no fixed beliefs or even a fixed personality,” he concluded. “Imagine having the desperation for power to be willing… to stand up and speak like that when everyone knows that you don’t. It’s not just embarrassing. I think it’s actually more sinister than that.”
