The Bomb Threats in Springfield, OH, Were Hoaxes, But the Media Is Still Blaming Donald Trump

The Springfield, OH, story continues to be covered in an absolutely absurd way. As it turns out, those bomb threats – some 30-plus of them – were from overseas. And yet, if you read The New York Times or listen to the corporate media, you would think that it was still the fault of J.D. Vance and Donald Trump.

On Monday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine put an end to the speculation around the threats made against Springfield government offices, schools, and medical centers since the city found itself in the national spotlight over its influx of Haitian migrants, calling them “hoaxes” with foreign ties.

DEWINE: … At least 33 separate bomb threats, each one of which has been responded to and each one of whom has been found as a hoax. So, 33 threats, 33 hoax. I want to make that very, very clear. None of these had any validity at all… We have people, unfortunately overseas, who are taking these actions. Some of them are coming from one particular country. We think that this is, you know, one more opportunity to mess with the United States. And they’re continuing to do that…

He said that at a press conference in Springfield yesterday, but it is unbelievable the amount of people who continue to blame Trump and Vance. Hours after DeWine spoke, CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell went on the air and still blamed them.

O’DONNELL: Donald Trump is blaming Democrats for inflaming political rhetoric, but the former president’s own words seem to be increasing the threat of political violence in Springfield, Ohio. That’s where a false and ugly accusation against Haitians, thousands of whom are legal permanent residents, is impacting everyday life.

She just doubles down. ‘It’s got to be a Trump-inspired loon. I just know it in my heart, notwithstanding what the governor had released.’ And she wasn’t alone. Here is Ana Navarro of The View on CNN this morning:

NAVARRO: Donald Trump and J.D. Vance are not questioning their rhetoric. Right now, because of their rhetoric, because of what he said in that debate, there’s been 33 bombing threats in Springfield, Ohio, that would not have happened but for this false conspiracy theory being spread by the vice presidential and presidential Republican candidate.

How do you know what the cause is, Ana? What forensic deconstruction did you do of the hoax calls to get to the bottom of it? When Donald Trump, Jr. called her out on it on X, she doubled down

There is just no attempt to stay factual. On this show, we told you we don’t know what the truth is about the animals, but we are showing you the evidence that is on the one side and we are telling you about what the city officials are saying on the other side. The rest of the media, meanwhile, wants to pretend that they have affirmatively settled it. They haven’t.

Of course, this all belies and undermines the overall issue, which is what the migrants are actually doing to this city and what the residents are actually going through – not just in Springfield but in towns across this country.
