Why Is Brittany Mahomes Still Getting Attacked for ‘Liking’ a Trump Post on Social Media?

It’s been more than a month since Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, caused a massive freakout on the left after ‘liking’ an Instagram post that outlined Donald Trump’s platform.

Mahomes unliked the post that led to the backlash, but she also defended herself. “I mean honestly,” she wrote in an Instagram Story 10 days later. “To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood.” She has been tight-lipped since, though she has reportedly ‘liked’ comments on her own social media posts that suggest support for the GOP ticket.

All the while, the media has refused to let the ‘like’ go. Countless headlines have been devoted to the topic and whether she and fellow Chiefs WAG Taylor Swift can still be friends, and now the hosts of The View have weighed in by attempting to insult Mahomes’ intelligence. On Thursday’s show, Megyn was joined by the hosts of Ruthless – Comfortably Smug, Michael Duncan, and John Ashbrook – to discuss the controversy and what it reveals about the left.

‘Problematic’ Posts

On Wednesday, The View co-host Sunny Hostin resurrected Mahomes’ August 13 social media activity and made it a racial issue. “It just seems to me that since she is in an interracial marriage, she should have known that to support a racist is problematic,” Hostin said. “Her children are biracial and her family is one of the families that, in the ’70s, could not have lived in any of Donald Trump’s buildings.”

She then suggested the mom of two, who is pregnant with her third child with the star QB, must just not be that smart. “So, it just seems to me that maybe she’s just not that politically savvy, or maybe she’s just not read in,” Hostin added. “But it’s problematic.”

Rather than accept that someone like Mahomes may not have the same political persuasions as the women of The View, Megyn pointed out that Hostin resorted to insults. “It’s like, she’s not ‘read in’ and she is just too dumb to know she is supporting a racist, but I, Sunny Hostin, am here to tell her,” Megyn noted.

Ashbrook said it is par for the course from the left. “Nobody is allowed to have a differing opinion. Everything has to be monolithic,” he explained. “It’s like, here are the talking points, this is what you have to sign on to and salute, and, if you don’t, you’re out.”

Sunny Knows Best?

Given that Trump has seen his poll numbers increase among black voters, Megyn wondered how far-reaching Hostin intended her insult to be. “Let’s talk about Trump doubling his support – at least according to the latest polls – with black men. Are they also uninformed and not ‘read in,'” she asked. “You can say it about a white woman, but you are also saying it about black voters who are ready to pull the lever for Trump: ‘They’re just too dumb to realize they’re voting for a racist who hates them. Listen to Sunny Hostin. She knows better.'”

As Duncan explained, Hostin’s logic ignores the realities of the Trump administration. “Donald Trump presided over an economy that had the lowest African American unemployment rate in history… Maybe that is motivating black voters to support Donald Trump in larger margins than they did in 2020,” he said. “But that’s just an informed opinion of your own personal situation and, according to Sunny Hostin, that doesn’t matter.”

Ultimately, Comfortably Smug said he believes the ongoing criticism of Mahomes is by design. “They basically create this culture of silence, where people don’t express their views,” he concluded, “because they’re scared they are going to be part of the out group.”
