‘Kudos to Them’: Megyn Had a Surprising Reaction to the ‘Saturday Night Live’ Cold Open

Saturday Night Live began its fiftieth anniversary season on Saturday. I didn’t watch it, and I don’t generally watch SNL. But I did see the cold open after it was all over the place on X.

I watched the full 13 minutes, and can I tell you? For the first time in years, it was funny. They poked fun at Kamala Harris and at Donald Trump. Maya Rudolph was very good as Kamala, and I laughed out loud when Jim Gaffigan walked out on stage as Tim Walz with all the weird, jerky arm movements. The best part was that they brought Dana Carvey on to do Joe Biden, and he nailed it.

I will say, James Austin Johnson’s Trump impersonation wasn’t funny. Trump is so iconic, you can’t settle for less there. You have to get somebody who can just nail it, and they didn’t. That wasn’t good, but the rest was actually well done.

Maybe they are watching Greg Gutfeld’s numbers and getting scared. Maybe they are understanding that truly great political comedy has no sacred cows and will take shots at both sides. Regardless, kudos to them for making an effort.

You can check out Megyn’s full analysis by tuning in to episode 901 on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you like to listen. And don’t forget that you can catch The Megyn Kelly Show live on SiriusXM’s Triumph (channel 111) weekdays from 12pm to 2pm ET.
