‘She Doesn’t Know the Answers’: Megyn Slams Kamala Harris’ ‘Terrible’ Interview with ‘60 Minutes’

The Harris-Walz media blitz is officially on. After practically ignoring the press for the better part of two months, suddenly Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz are everywhere. She is about to go live on Howard Stern. She went to 60 Minutes last night. She just finished up over at The View. Stephen Colbert is on tap for later today.

The Fall of 60 Minutes

What we now know is she went to the friendliest source she could find at 60 Minutes, Bill Whitaker. He seems like a very nice man without any sharp tools in his arsenal. He has been her go-to correspondent at CBS News. This marked her third sit-down with him. There is a reason for that. There was one sharp exchange on immigration that could potentially have ended her campaign. There were some gentle pushback moments. Other than that, he was very nice to her.

They used to call 60 Minutes in the age of Mike Wallace and Ed Bradley ‘murderers row’ because they would crush you. It was scary to go on there. Liars would be exposed. No politician was spared because they cared more about the reputation of 60 Minutes as a hard-hitting journalistic outfit than they did about promoting somebody’s candidacy.

Bill Whitaker seems like a nice man. But you know what, Bill? You were too nice for this particular job. You put on the kid gloves, you took care of her, and anybody who is a journalist or who pays attention to the news saw it.

The Interview

It took about 30 minutes to air the interview including commercials. It was longer than that, and you could see it had many cuts. Even so, when it came to actually answering the questions, Kamala Harris once again stuck to her script. Nine times out of 10, that meant she said nothing. She did terribly.

She doesn’t know anything about foreign policy. When Donald Trump became president, he had been a businessman. He had never been a world leader, but he figured it out darn quick because he had a lifetime of experience running things, making big decisions, and understanding the world.

She has been vice president for almost four years, and she still knows nothing. It was stunning enough to watch how clueless she was on her own economic plans and her lies about immigration. But when we veered into Ukraine, China, and Israel, it was like blank stares and absolutely no answers.

Harris on the Middle East

In case you missed it, the interview started off with a question about Israel and the Middle East that was fine. But she had no idea how to answer it. Here’s how it went:

WHITAKER: What can the U.S. do at this point to stop this from spinning out of control?

HARRIS: Well, let’s start with October 7. 1,200 people were massacred… and I maintain Israel has a right to defend itself… and how it does so matters. Far too many innocent Palestinians have been killed. This war has to end.

WHITAKER: We supply Israel with billions of dollars in military aid, and yet Prime Minister Netanyahu seems to be charting his own course… Does the U.S. have no sway over Prime Minister Netanyahu?

HARRIS: The work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles.

WHITAKER: But it seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening.

HARRIS: We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end…

Could you do that right now while you’re sitting on 60 Minutes? Say something. What is your plan?

This is what she does often. She tries to go back and give you a little history lesson with the ‘let me take you back’ because it is great filler. In her mind, it makes her sound smart and like she understands the issue. And then she gives no policy prescription or forecast whatsoever. It is just fill, fill, fill, then some random facts, and then zero offerings in terms of what she intends to do.

Iran, China, Hypotheticals

There was a question about Iran that didn’t make the main show. In the 60 Minutes Overtime clip released after the fact, Whitaker had additional questions on foreign policy and Harris continued to not have answers.

WHITAKER: …If you have proof that Iran is building a nuclear weapon, would you take military action?

HARRIS:  I’m not going to talk about hypotheticals at this moment.

WHITAKER: What about China… if China attacks Taiwan, would we use military force to support Taiwan?

HARRIS: Bill, I’m not going to get into hypotheticals…

These are totally appropriate questions. These are questions we had in our Republican primary debate last December. They are totally fair game.

This is not a deposition. In a deposition, you say, ‘I’m not answering hypotheticals.’ But it is not a deposition. She is interviewing to become the next president and commander in chief. We are entitled to answers on these questions, but she doesn’t know the answers.

How can you look at this woman and say she is qualified to be president of the United States? She doesn’t know anything about China. She doesn’t know anything about Iran. She doesn’t know anything about Ukraine. She doesn’t know anything about the Middle East. That is why she keeps deflecting to non-answers and hypotheticals. I am waiting for the old lawyer objections to come out.

That is not how this works. She is interviewing for a job, and we are the employers. She owes us an answer.
