I wanted to update you on the X account that has been pushing a story we covered to some extent on this show and now is pushing an incendiary story about Gov. Tim Walz. As I posted on X last night, I would proceed with caution.
The Original Story
The account goes by the name “Black Insurrectionist” on X. And the reason we talked about the account on this show was because of what he posted about a month ago in the wake of the ABC News presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
He said he had been in touch with a whistleblower from within ABC News who was alleging he heard conversations amongst executives revealing the network inappropriately coordinated with the Harris campaign in advance. There were supposedly tapes that proved it. ABC News responded by saying it followed all rules of the debate.
The alleged whistleblower said the behind-the-scenes conversations involved not asking Kamala Harris anything about her time as attorney general of California, her brother-in-law and his controversial tenure over at the Department of Justice, and Joe Biden’s mental acuity. Now, none of those subjects came up during the debate. But this supposed whistleblower was claiming to know they wouldn’t be touched ahead of the debate.
This person claimed in what was represented to be a sworn affidavit – heavily redacted and posted on the X account at issue – to have sent a certified copy of his allegations to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson the day before the September 10 debate.
In the wake of the debate, the X account was lighting the internet and fire. He said he had the audio tapes and was going to come forward with them. There was a Republican congressman calling for hearings on Capitol Hill. There were prominent voices like Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Bill Ackman saying this must be investigated, possibly by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), if true.
We reported all of that on this show. I told the audience I did not put my credibility behind this guy, but we needed to raise it because it was turning into a story.
The Update
Since the initial claims, we have been trying to ascertain whether Speaker Johnson did receive that certified letter. It seemed to me from the beginning that if he got the letter, the story is legit. If he didn’t get the letter, it is not. That just seemed pretty clear to me.
We are now able to confirm the speaker’s office did not get the letter. We have spoken with a source with direct knowledge who said Speaker Johnson’s office never received the document in question. Additionally, the alleged tapes have never been made public. The alleged whistleblower has never come forward. We were told he was possibly filing a lawsuit. That didn’t happen.
The X account posting the alleged whistleblower’s claims reported that complaints had been filed with the SEC and the Federal Election Commission (FEC), who declined to comment when we attempted to verify these submissions. But even if one was received, it doesn’t prove the whistleblower exists.
The Takeaway
That is the state of this alleged ABC News whistleblower and this X account. For whatever it is worth, I unfollowed the account because, when I followed him, he put me in his X bio as ‘Megyn Kelly is following me.’ That is not okay.
I do not follow him now, and I recommend everybody proceed with extreme caution on the latest incendiary things he is saying about Tim Walz. Just because it hurts ‘the other side’ doesn’t mean it is appropriate to run with. In this day and age, people need to be really careful about who they trust.
