If you listen to Kamala Harris on the campaign trail, she is trying to paint herself as the candidate of ‘change’ because, according to the polls, that is what Americans are voting for this election. It’s a tough pitch to make when you are the sitting vice president, and it is an even tougher sell when, during interviews, you fail to come up with anything you would do differently than President Joe Biden.
The hypocrisy was apparently not lost on Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who unleashed a six-minute rant on social media over the weekend calling out the “gaslighting” from the left and explaining why he thinks Harris is “is the worst candidate to ever run for president.”
On Wednesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Tucker Carlson, host of The Tucker Carlson Show, to talk about Portnoy’s frustration and how it highlights Harris’ problem with male voters.
Portnoy’s Rant
Portnoy dropped his video rant on X on Sunday night where it quickly racked up millions of views. He said he needed to “let steam off” after he “hit the boiling point” watching Harris on the campaign trail.
“The gaslighting that the left is doing with Kamala Harris, making it sound like she is some great, groundbreaking candidate – she is the worst candidate to ever run for president,” he said. “Ever.”
What “put him over the edge” was Harris’ recent claims on the campaign trail that she is the candidate who will “turn the page” and offer “a new way forward” despite her position in the present administration.
While he understood the strategy because he thinks “90 percent of Americans – left or right – are like, ‘The last four years under Biden? Not great,'” he couldn’t get over how she handled “softball” questions about how she is different from Biden on The View and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
“This is the candidate that say is such a great leader? No, stop gaslighting us,” Portnoy said. “Kamala Harris can’t even answer the easiest questions of all time. She never gives a straight answer. She doesn’t seem to be able to put coherent thoughts together.”
In his view, there are two types of voters in the 2024 election: those voting for Donald Trump because they “like” him and those who are “voting against” Trump because they “hate” him. “If you still want to vote for her because you hate Trump that much… do it,” Portnoy said. “But stop the gaslighting. Please. The footage is there.”
The Male Vote
It is no secret Harris has a problem with male voters and Megyn said Portnoy, in theory, represents a ‘gettable’ guy for her campaign. “Dave Portnoy is a man who Harris would like to get because he is definitely pro-choice. He went on a tear like a year ago about how he can’t vote for the Republican Party because they’re pro-life… It was post-Dobbs,” she recalled. “He seems to be sounding a little different these days because he is not picking up what Kamala Harris is putting down.”
Carlson said Portnoy was voicing the frustration of many of the men in his audience. “He is not a conservative or Republican… but his instincts are sort of no BS,” he explained. “He also has a huge audience/constituency of young men who are really the people that Kamala Harris hates most.”
While the Harris campaign seems to be turning their attention to men – specifically, black and Latino men – down the stretch, Carlson isn’t sure it will work. “Watch Kamala Harris. Do you think that a single Barstool Sports fan has the love of Kamala Harris,” he asked. “No, Kamala Harris’ base is the guy… who really loves Kamala Harris because she smells good.”
“I just think she should hope that there are a lot more of that guy than there are at Barstool Sports consumers in this country,” Carlson concluded. “In the end, if you feel that somebody hates you, you’re not going to vote for that person. I just don’t think you are.”
