As you may know, I was out in Los Angeles on Friday to sit down with Bill Maher on his show. I appreciated him inviting me on because it was a chance to be in front of an audience that probably doesn’t watch The Megyn Kelly Show and, I hope, speak some sense to them on issues that they don’t normally hear discussed.
Bill gave me the forum to do it, and it was a great time. We had some spicy moments, and we had some things on which we agreed. The thing about Bill Maher is he is a non-woke, non-leftist liberal, but he definitely has some serious hatred for Donald Trump. Some say he has Trump Derangement Syndrome. He loathes the man. So, he is kind of an interesting combination of things.
On Donald Trump
Of course we got into it about Trump being a “fascist,” and Trump’s foreign policy, and Trump’s incendiary rhetoric. You can watch some of the highlights from our back and forth in the clip above.
I saw some TDS there, and I get. Bill and Trump have a very, very negative history between the two of them. A lot of people don’t like Trump. Ideally when you are making a presidential decision, however, you can check your personal feelings about a guy and make a call. I think Bill thinks he is doing that. He told me on air that he thinks I will regret voting for Donald Trump and defending his “fascism.”
To that, I told him I don’t believe those charges, and I think the Democrats are the ones who are locking up their enemies. Who called parents ‘domestic terrorists’ because they stood up at their school board meetings to fight for their children to go to school at all, never mind not wearing masks? That was the Biden administration.
Who locked up people who worked in the prior administration? That was the Biden administration. Speaking of Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro, who are the only two people who have gone to prison for contempt of Congress? They didn’t put Eric Holder in jail, and yet he did the same thing those guys did. They didn’t put the current attorney general, Merrick Garland, in jail. He did the same thing.
It was the Biden-Harris administration, who prosecuted multiple cases against their chief political rival, Donald Trump. There are two federal prosecutions against Donald Trump as a result of Department of Justice investigations against him and then two state cases as well in New York and Georgia. The DOJ sent its number three official, Matthew Colangelo, to go run herd on the New York one. So, don’t tell me the Biden administration was not involved in any of these.
Trump did not do any of that. I don’t believe this “fascist” claim. I am sure this audience doesn’t either, but it is everywhere and Maher and I tussled about it. The audience wasn’t with me. That is fine. I don’t care. It was important that they hear it.
On Radical Trans Ideology
Bill and I also got into the trans issue. I think he and I are on exactly the same page on that front. His audience, however, seemed unaware. When I said, “we are chopping off the body parts of healthy children, 100% we are doing that,” the audience kind of jeered. And Bill set them straight.
This is not a “remote issue” as Kamala Harris claimed when asked about it during her interview with Bret Baier. It is the issue of our time – both with respect to children and women’s rights – and I think Bill was in complete agreement with me on that. I also think his audience maybe learned a thing or two. Some actually came up to me afterward and said it was eye opening. I really hope that is true.
Thanks, Bill
For that, I thank Bill Maher because he does have a much different audience. I think it is much more left-leaning, but I think he has conservatives who watch him too. He is very funny. His jokes and his New Rules are absolutely hilarious. He still wants to make you laugh, irrespective of your political differences with him. He is not in it for the applause. He really is in it for the laughs, which I appreciate.
And after it was all said and done, we all went back to the Green Room where there is a bar. We had a drink, we talked, we laughed, and we had a good time. I appreciated the invitation and Bill’s willingness to have conversations with people who disagree with him and with whom he disagrees. It is one of the reasons why he is a very important voice in American politics.
