If you are a regular viewer of The Megyn Kelly Show, you know Megyn loves a good TV or movie reference. During an ‘Asked and Answered’ segment earlier this month, someone wrote in to ask Megyn what her favorite movie is and when she finds the time to watch things for pleasure.
As Megyn has shared, her favorite movie of all time is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. In fact, her “dreams came true” when she got a chance to watch the 1971 classic with star Julie Dawn Cole (who played Veruca Salt) to celebrate her fiftieth birthday.
Megyn acknowledged that most of her movie and television references come from the 1970s and ‘80s because that was the era she was raised in. Today, she gets the occasional recommendation from her hairstylist, Sarah, but some of her suggestions prove to be a little too intense for Megyn and Doug.
That is why she decided to pose a question back to the audience: What are you currently watching that you would recommend, or what is something you think can’t be missed? Suggestions came pouring in and, since we don’t gatekeep here at The Megyn Kelly Show, we’ve compiled a list of your recs that will hopefully come in handy for you and yours.
Happy watching!
Top TV Series
- Bad Sisters (Apple TV+) – Shelly says, “Filmed outside Dublin, decent story line, Irish humor (think The Banshees of Inisherin)”
- Detectorists (Prime Video) – Jeff says, “A well-written Brit TV series (three seasons, 2014-2017). Only the British can make a funny and entertaining series out of such a dull topic. Good humor with no overtly woke messaging, and you can watch it with the kids in the room!”
- Disclaimer (Apple TV+) – Maureen says, “Andrew Klavan gave a review for this series starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, and Sacha Baron Cohen. I am just two episodes in, but I think it’s fantastic. Very intriguing.”
- For All Mankind (Apple TV+) – Josh says, “Worth it.”
- Halt and Catch Fire (Apple TV+) – Patricia says, “The rare show where you cry at the last episode because you will never see these characters again and you’ll miss them terribly!! It follows a group of fictional characters based on pioneers in the early PC days and their journey to CA.”
- Lessons in Chemistry (Apple TV+) – Laurie Ann says, “Excellent!”
- Nobody Wants This (Netflix) – Caitlin says, “It’s a lot of fun.”
- Ozark (Netflix) – J.L. says, “Watch without the kids. This is you and hubby in bed watching TV kind of thing.”
- Slow Horses (Apple TV+) – Shelly says, “A bit of a thriller but easy to digest.”
- Special Ops: Lioness (Paramount+) – Wendy says, “It is the best, I promise. Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidman are operatives in a man’s world and they both kick some major ass. It’s in the middle of its second season. Please watch the first, I guarantee you will want more!!!!”
- The Chosen – Dr. Sue says, “It is beautifully written, brilliantly acted & directed and divinely inspired. It brings the gospel account of Jesus Christ’s ministry on earth to life in a very human and relatable way.”
- The Diplomat (Netflix) – Philip says, “It is set mainly in London and has a wonderful cast and a great story line.”
- The Pacific (Netflix) – Harry says, “Should be required viewing for all U.S. citizens. Freedom is not free. Keep some tissues close at hand.”
- The Queen’s Gambit (Netflix) – J. says, ” One of the best shows made in the last few years.”
Top Movies + Documentaries
- Coda (Apple TV+) – Elisa says, “A great, feel good movie.”
- Godzilla Minus One (Netflix) – Raffi says, “Not your typical dumb Godzilla movie.”
- Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter (Netflix) – Krystal says, “A truly incredible story of a mother’s love. I am a true crime buff and this two-part documentary is unforgettable.”

- LuLaRich (Prime Video) – Nancy says, “I watched the docuseries during an insomnia event last summer. It’s only 4 episodes.”
- Mr. McMahon (Netflix) – Raffi says, “It’s a Vince McMahon documentary and absolutely wild. I liked pro wrestling as a kid but paid it no attention for over 20 years. It’s a fascinating world and he’s a fascinating (and probably sickly immoral) one of one individual.”
- The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society (Netflix) – Susan says, “As a writer, your husband will really enjoy it. As a romantic, you will too.”
