Donald Trump returned to the world stage in grand fashion over the weekend.
The president-elect was in Paris, France, for his first overseas trip since winning the 2024 election to attend the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral. There, he hobnobbed with foreign dignitaries and heads of state and even seemed to get a smile out of First Lady Jill Biden.
On Monday’s show, Megyn was joined by Link Lauren, influencer and former adviser to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Amala Ekpunobi, host of the Amala Ekpunobi Podcast, to discuss Trump’s visit and the unexpected diplomatic moments it yielded.
Trump and Biden
Trump got a warm reception in the City of Light, where he shared a hearty – and viral – handshake with French President Emanuel Macron and was treated to the prime seat in between the leader and his wife, Brigitte Macron, during the exclusive ceremony.
President Joe Biden didn’t make the trip, instead sending his wife and daughter, Ashley Biden, as the U.S. delegation. The first lady was seated just one chair away from Trump, and the two were photographed in what appeared to be a friendly conversation.
It was so friendly, in fact, the Trump team used the picture to promote the president-elect’s new fragrance line called “Fight, Fight, Fight.” Inspired by Trump’s famous words after surviving the first assassination attempt against him, the collection features a cologne for men and a perfume for women that each retail for $199.
The ad (above) – which was first shared by Trump on Truth Social – features the photo of him and Biden with the fragrances superimposed on top. The tagline reads, “A fragrance even your enemies can’t resist.”
Trump later told The New York Post that he had a lovely conversation with the first lady despite their history. “It’s politics. You have to get used to it,” he told the outlet. “She was very nice, and we had a very nice conversation.”
Lauren joked that between the White House visit last month and this trip, “the only times we have seen Jill Biden smile recently are when she is with” Trump. “We don’t need another season of Emily in Paris; we need Donald Trump in Paris,” he quipped. “He was over there… holding court. I was shocked he didn’t come home wearing a beret and smoking one of those long, obnoxious cigarettes. Donald Trump was having a great time in Paris.”
Trump and Prince William
The president-elect also spent time with Prince William, who was attending the event at Notre-Dame on behalf of the British royal family. The two spoke privately for about 30 minutes, and Trump told the Post they had “a great talk” and noted the future king is “very handsome.”
“He’s a good looking guy. He looked really handsome last night. Some people look better in person? He looked great,” Trump said. “He looked really nice, and I told him that.” Lauren noted the comment is classic Trump considering how much “he loves central casting,” but he believes the moment was also yet another reminder of the shifting dynamics in the royal family.
“I couldn’t help but think about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle waltzing around their McMansion in Montecito complaining about how famous they are,” Lauren said. “I really think those two little hucksters thought they were going to be in like flint if Kamala Harris won because they are best friends with Oprah Winfrey and she was out there campaigning for Kamala. Now, they are going to have to sit there, irrelevant as ever.”
Trump’s Triumphant Return
The forty-fifth president also spent time with the likes of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as world leaders reportedly clamored for time with him.
Lauren said the good-natured trip was “what we need with international relations,” and Ekpunobi believes it represented the start of a new era. “You can watch with everybody in the room – every single eye is on him. They cannot look away from him,” she said. “He just very well might have that fragrance on because people were gravitating towards this man.”
It was a marked change, she noted, from how Trump was previously received. “We have watched over the past… eight years, as these individuals have attacked him, they have cast him aside, they have laughed at him in this sort of move of political theater that we saw in reference to the Trump administration and to the Trump campaign in this last election,” she concluded. “But now that he has won, they are just gravitating towards him. He is like a magnet.”
