Apparently Hitler 2.0 isn’t so bad after all?!
Democrats spent the months leading up to the 2024 election trying to convince the American people that Donald Trump is a threat to democracy and a Hitler-esque figure, but they appear to get along with the president-elect just fine now.
First, we saw Joe Biden welcome his successor to the Oval Office with open arms in November. Then, Jill Biden seemed charmed by Trump at the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris last month. And now Barack Obama is getting in on the action.
Former presidents and first ladies gathered in Washington, D.C., on Thursday for the funeral of Jimmy Carter, and the biggest headlines from the otherwise somber event surrounded the chipper conversation Trump and Obama seemed to be enjoying – much to the dismay of Kamala Harris.
On Friday’s show, Megyn was joined by Jesse Kelly, host of The Jesse Kelly Show, to discuss the surprising scene and how it further dismantles the narrative surrounding Trump.
Palling Around
In the lead up to the state funeral services for Carter getting underway at the Washington National Cathedral, cameras found the forty-fourth and forty-fifth presidents engaged in a jovial conversation.
At one point, Obama could be seen laughing heartily at something Trump said, which is not exactly what you would expect from the guy who was calling the president-elect “dangerous” in the lead up to the election. “Hitler is so funny,” Megyn quipped. “Hitler is quite charming when you spend time with him one on one.”
Trump admitted to the press on Friday that the former presidents “probably do” like each other. One person who is not here for the bromance? The sitting vice president. Harris was seemingly caught glaring at the two men as they were chatting with an unamused look on her face.
“Kamala appears to be looking back at those two – Trump and Obama – yucking it up, and she does not look okay,” Megyn noted. “It looks like she takes a deep sigh and looks down. She’s like, ‘What in the actual eff?’”
Kamala Snubbed
Kelly said there are several reasons for Harris to be dismayed. “The dynamics are, Barack Obama was the one who… knives Joe Biden in the ribs, shoves him out the back of the White House, and then picks up the phone and organizes $1.5 billion – with a B – to be given to Kamala Harris for her campaign, where she proceeded to not only embarrass herself the entire time, but she embarrassed him,” he explained.
That unfortunate reality, he said, cannot be far from her mind. “Think about all that when you think about Kamala Harris looking over her shoulder back at Barack Obama,” Kelly added. “I wouldn’t put it past Trump to say a little bit too loudly, ‘How’d she work out for you?’ Or… if he didn’t say it, I bet you Kamala Harris is thinking he did.”
To add insult to injury, the failed Democratic nominee also appeared to be snubbed by the Bidens as they took their places next to her. On CNN, Jake Tapper noted that “you didn’t see a particularly warm greeting” between Harris and the president or first lady. In reality, there was no greeting at all, aside from her briefly holding Jill’s handbag as she took her seat.
False Narratives
Kelly said Harris isn’t the only one who “should be mad” about the affection between Trump and Obama. “Who should be mad about that… are the little drones who vote Democrat every single time because these people lie to your face all the time,” he said. “None of these people think Trump is actually Hitler or a Nazi or a white supremacist. And before Donald Trump started running for president, he was a lifelong Democrat who was chumming up with these people at every single cocktail party out there, and they all loved him.”
As he explained, those voters were sold a bill of goods. “You have all these single women on anti-anxiety meds freaking out that the world is gonna end… [but] all these [politicians] loved him,” Kelly said. “I would be mad if my politicians lied to me all the time like that. I get mad when the GOP lies to me, which they do routinely. So, maybe Democrats should do the same.”
