Perhaps this is one for the road.
There are but days left of the Biden administration, and Kamala Harris delivered what may have been her final word salad as vice president while addressing victims of the Los Angeles wildfires from the Oval Office.
Her befuddling remarks came amid a new report that reveals she has not welcomed her successor, J.D. Vance, to the vice president’s residence for a customary tour ahead of him assuming office next week. On Wednesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Victor Davis Hanson, author of The End of Everything, to discuss Harris’ lame duck tenure.
The Word Salad
During a White House briefing on the devastating wildfires on Monday, Harris served up one of her signature word salads when she said a lot about a little. “It’s critically important that, to the extent you can find anything that gives you an ability to be patient in this extremely dangerous and unprecedented crisis, that you do,” Harris said.
The wordy message – which we can only assume was meant to translate to ‘be patient’ – was directed at Californians who are eager to get back home. “You would think she would say, ‘Whatever I say cannot be a word salad because I will be watched carefully,'” Hanson noted. “And what did she do? In 60 seconds, she said something that was entirely incomprehensible. No one could understand the syntax, the grammar, the vocabulary. It was just a confirmation of her imbecility.”
And he seemingly isn’t the only person who felt that way. As Hanson observed, Harris’ remarks seemed to confuse even those in the room with her. “Who is next to her,” Hanson asked of perplexed-looking DHS secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. “His eyes were sort of exploding… His eyes went, ‘Oh my God, what is this woman saying?'”
The Snub
But that wasn’t the only headline Harris made this week. On Tuesday, reports began to circulate that she did not extend an invitation to Vance for a formal get together ahead of Inauguration Day. As a result, the vice president-elect, his wife Usha, and their three young children will see their new residence at the Naval Observatory for the very first time on January 20 when they move in.
CBS News cited anonymous Democratic and Republican sources who said Usha had reached out to Harris’ team back in November for details about the Queen Anne-style mansion, including what they might need to childproof for the safety of their kids who are all under the age of eight.
Those questions were apparently ignored until Navy aides who oversee the residence stepped in before Christmas to provide an overview of the house and discuss logistics of the upcoming move-in. Last week, it is believed that Usha and Second Gentleman Doug Emhhoff finally had a phone call.
While people close to Harris claim then-Vice President Mike Pence never hosted Harris after the 2020 election, his advisors dispute the allegation and say Harris and Emhoff were given the chance to visit the residence in the final days of the Trump administration.
Regardless of what is true, Megyn said the report illustrates just how “petty” and “bitter” Harris remains after her decisive loss to Donald Trump.
