Secretary of State Marco Rubio was the first of Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate when he received unanimous support in the Senate last Monday. The former U.S. senator from Florida will now be at the helm of carrying out Trump’s “America First” agenda abroad.
Trump made some of his ambitions clear in his inaugural address when he discussed his desire for the U.S. to regain control of the Panama Canal and rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. Buying Greenland was another headline-making campaign promise from the president, and then there are the ongoing wars between Russia and Ukraine and Israel and Hamas to contend with.
Secretary Rubio is set to depart on his first international trip this week to Latin America, where he will make stops in Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, and, yes, Panama. On Thursday’s show, he joined Megyn for his first long-form interview since being confirmed to discuss what it means to be secretary of state under President Trump and how he views the foreign policy priorities of the administration.

Megyn and Secretary Rubio discuss why he is heading to Panama for his first foreign trip, China’s interest in Panama and what they could do if the U.S. is not involved in negotiations, what he hopes to accomplish with the visit, and more.
