Massachusetts City Flouts Trump Executive Orders, Votes to Become a ‘Sanctuary City’ for Trans People

Amid the slate of executive orders signed by Donald Trump to curb radical gender ideology, state and local officials in blue states have been looking for ways to flout the law. One city in Massachusetts went so far as to declare itself a “sanctuary” for “transgender and gender diverse people” this week.

On Wednesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Adam Corolla, host of The Adam Carolla Show, to discuss the resolution and why it does more harm than good.

The Resolution

The Worcester City Council voted late Tuesday to become a “sanctuary” for trans and gender nonconforming people after a petition was filed on behalf of LGBTQ residents of the municipality.

The measure passed by a 9 to 2 margin after some three hours of testimony from activists and advocates. Some of the footage from the hearing was posted on X by Alex Lorusso (@ALX):

The resolution declaring Worcester a “sanctuary city for transgender and gender diverse people” claims “the trans, nonbinary and LGBTQIA+ community in Worcester and nationally are being attacked” by Trump’s executive orders, including the action that said the U.S. government will now recognize two sexes (male and female) and the one that seeks to end so-called “gender affirming care” for minors.

The measure reads, in part:

…The City Council of the City of Worcester hereby reiterates its commitment to transgender rights and equal protections for transgender community members and declares itself a sanctuary city and a place of safety for transgender and gender diverse people…

…The City of Worcester recognizes the importance of gender-affirming healthcare as a matter of health, privacy, and equality, and to ensure, to the greatest extent permitted by law, that those rights are upheld for all residents and visitors within the City of Worcester…

…the City Council of Worcester hereby maintains it should be the policy of the City of Worcester that no city resources, including, but not limited to, time spent by employees, officers, contractors, or subcontractors while on duty, or the use of city property, shall be utilized for detaining persons for solely seeking or providing gender-affirming care, including gender affirmation surgery or gender hormone therapy…

…the City of Worcester hereby maintains it should be a policy of the City of Worcester that no city resources be utilized for cooperating with or providing information to any individual or out-of-state agency or department regarding the provision of gender-affirming healthcare or gender-affirming mental healthcare performed in Worcester and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts…

…the City of Worcester as a sanctuary city will not cooperate with Federal and State on policies aimed to harm transgender and gender diverse people and ensure transgender and gender diverse people have access to healthcare, housing, education, and employment without fear or discrimination.

The council members who voted against the resolution said they fear it will lead to a loss of federal funding. Those in favor said it is a way to signal to the LGBT community that “we’ve got your back.”

‘Supreme Narcissism’

Megyn said the ‘no’ votes are right to be concerned. “Good luck flouting the law. We’ll see how that works out for you,” she said. “We know Massachusetts is liberal, but they used to be not so far left that they wouldn’t elect a Republican governor… or even a Republican senator… Now they’ve just gone around the bend.”

She also took issue with the testimony. “This is not a well group, but they are still winning in places like Worcester,” Megyn noted. “It is just a little microcosm of explanation on how these insane policies got shoved into these agencies to begin with.”

While some of the speakers identified themselves as “multiply disabled,” Carolla said they suffer from a condition that didn’t make the list. “It’s not narcolepsy, it’s narcissism. That’s all. These people are narcissists, supreme narcissists,” he said. “They sit around and they go, ‘I have this… The world is coming for me. They want me dead. They can’t take me.'”

“They think Trump is a narcissist… [but] that is a supreme narcissism,” Carolla continued. “And also – no one ever talks about it – but most of these people were victims growing up… and that then translates into what you just saw as an adult.”

Worcester is not alone in designating itself a trans sanctuary city. There are cities and entire states all over the country, and Carolla said the policies are all wrong. “They don’t need people agreeing with them or accommodating them. They need guard ramps,” he concluded. “It is essentially the same thing the homeless community needs. They don’t need compassion and understanding. They need tough love… and a place to sober up.”
