Donald Trump made fighting back against radical gender ideology one of the hallmarks of his 2024 campaign, and the Trump administration wasted no time introducing executive orders recognizing two sexes (male and female), banning so-called ‘gender affirming care’ for minors, and protecting women’s sports.
Democrat governors have been doing their best to either thwart the laws (i.e. Janet Mills in Maine) or forge ahead with their own woke interests. The latest example involves Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, who is being criticized for his recommendation to change the word ‘mother’ to ‘inseminated person’ and ‘paternity’ to ‘parentage’ in certain parts of state law.
On Tuesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Annemarie Wiley to discuss why the left continues to double down on unpopular culture war issues and how it is driving voters away from the Democrat Party.
Name Games
Evers is facing backlash after his administration made a budget recommendation for the 2025 to 2027 fiscal period that advocates for swapping out gendered language in some parts of Badger State law.
Evers proposed changing references to ‘wife’ or ‘husband’ to ‘spouse.’ ‘Father’ would be replaced with ‘parent,’ while ‘paternity’ would become ‘parentage.’ When it comes to ‘mother,’ different terminology would apparently be used depending on the circumstance. In some cases – like those concerning artificial insemination – ‘inseminated person’ would be the favored reference. In others, it would be ‘parent who gave birth to the child.’
According to a review by Republican State Representative Amanda Nedweski, ‘mother’ was replaced with a gender-neutral term at least 30 times in the 1,917-page document and ‘father’ was swapped out more than 120 times.
The backlash was swift, but Evers remained undeterred. Instead, he accused Republicans of misrepresenting his proposal. “What the Republicans say is a lie, so of course I’m pretty PO’d about that,” he told a reporter. “It gives people using IVF legal certainty. That’s it… Moms are moms. Dads are dads. What we want is legal certainty.”
Leftist Lunacy
Megyn called Evers’ attempted defense a dodge. “He is totally dodging his decision to refer to mothers as ‘inseminated persons’ – no man can be an ‘inseminated person’ carrying a baby,” she said. “Not for nothing, but I have done IVF… and you are not technically an ‘inseminated person’… You have an embryo implanted in you. The insemination happens outside of the body… if you really want to get technical.”
As Wiley explained, she voted Democrat most of her life but these types of issues are what drove her from the party. “This is really one of the reasons why I say that I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me,” she shared. “I can’t think of any woman that is okay with being referred to as an ‘inseminated person.’ It just goes so far away from valuing mothers… It is really indefensible.”
It is another instance, she said, of “inclusivity” run amuck. “If you don’t agree with this, then [they say] you are not being inclusive or you are being transphobic,” Wiley said. “All we are saying here is, ‘No, we are women. We want to be respected as such… and not just relegated down to to labels that don’t value us as who we are.'”
